Learning scientists who read the syllabus — and the schema
Smart Edu AI Inc. is a Canadian edtech studio on West Broadway, Vancouver. We design and deliver AI-driven learning analytics, adaptive learning models and outcomes insight for schools, colleges and universities — with educators in the loop, student-data privacy protected, and academic integrity respected.
Our origin on West Broadway
We opened our studio at 525 West Broadway, Suite 110, because the neighbourhood sits at the crossroads of healthcare, education and civic institutions that shape how British Columbians learn across the lifespan. From this base we serve colleges along the Canada Line, remote northern campuses and edtech teams shipping nationally.
Founder Dr. Mei Chen spent a decade in educational psychology research before moving into product analytics for learning platforms. She saw the same pattern repeat: teams shipped features faster than they validated learning impact. Dropout was predictable by week three — but nobody on faculty saw it until the withdrawal list landed. Smart Edu AI exists to make evidence pace innovation, not stall it.
We are incorporated in British Columbia (BN 918374026 RC0001) and operate exclusively as a consultancy. We are not a school, credential-granting body, wellness brand or life-coaching service. The smarteduai.life domain is branding only.
How we work
Our team blends backgrounds in cognitive psychology, learning analytics engineering, instructional design and privacy governance. Engagements are small by design — senior practitioners stay on the file from scoping through delivery. No bait-and-switch to junior staff after the proposal is signed.
We favour transparent methods: every metric we recommend ships with a plain-language definition, known limitations and the instructional decision it supports. When data cannot answer a question ethically or statistically, we say so early. Models include confidence intervals, data-quality flags and educator sign-off gates.
Collaboration happens in workshops, shared documents and on-site sessions with faculty and IT when helpful. Remote delivery is standard for clients outside the Lower Mainland. Office hours: Monday–Friday, 09:00–18:00 Pacific Time.
VALUES · SE-05
Principles that guide every engagement
Intellectual honesty
We document assumptions and publish limitations alongside recommendations. Dashboards without caveats mislead stakeholders. Knowledge tracing informs decisions; it does not pretend to be an oracle card.
Privacy by design
For BC public bodies, we treat FIPPA and PIPEDA obligations as design constraints from discovery — not compliance afterthoughts. Student-privacy safeguards are documented before pipelines go live.
Instructor respect
Measurement should reduce burden, not add grading overhead. If a metric requires heroic data entry, we redesign it. Automated feedback drafts await educator review — never auto-issued.
Who we partner with
Typical clients include BC and Alberta colleges modernising LMS analytics, continuing-education providers validating micro-credentials, K-12 districts piloting adaptive tools and edtech startups preparing for institutional sales cycles. We also advise research units structuring learning studies under TCPS2.
Analytics reviews start from C$14,000; full engagements run C$40,000–C$110,000 depending on scope. If your challenge involves understanding whether learners gained durable skill — not just whether they logged in — we should talk.
